Are you burning out in your podcast?
We can all safely say that we’ve felt burned out at one point or another. It’s important to be able to know the signs so that you can reset and get out of the cycle.
Here are 5 signs that you’re burned out on your podcast:
You are feeling unmotivated to produce/host/edit your show. It’s hard for you to muster up the energy to do anything related to your show.
You’re feeling utterly exhausted. If you’re feeling more tired than normal, it may be a sign that you’re taking on too much and not allowing for enough rest. I find this one to be true, especially for folks who do their podcast on the side of a full-time job.
You feel helpless. You feel like you’ve done all the right things, read all the blogs, but nothing seems to be changing.
You feel self-doubt creep in more than normal. you’re feeling like you don’t know what you’re doing.
Your overall outlook for podcasting starts to become more negative. You find yourself becoming more cynical.
Burnt out? Here’s what you can do now:
The first step is to know what the symptoms are and then you can address them. Ask yourself these questions:
Am I struggling to keep up with the frequency of episodes I put into place? If so, can I scale it back?
Am I struggling to make time to promote the show? If so, perhaps do content planning sprints to be able to batch your promotional materials.
Do I feel good about the product that I’m putting out, is it serving my community? If not, perhaps go back to your why.
Do I actually just need rest? Like actual rest. The answer to this one is most likely yes, so allow yourself to take a break. You are in control of this journey, no one else.
Once you have answers to these questions, you can clearly lay out an action plan to get back to a place of rested focus.
